The Energy Saving Trust has awarded over o2.5 million to local authorities around Britain to help customers reduce their fuel bills and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the trust has announced.

The awards are made as part of the HECAction campaign to meet targets set under the Home Energy Conservation Act. The campaign involves a competition amongst local authorities to kick start self-sustaining energy efficiency initiatives.

The trust said HECAction had helped bring about investment of over o40 million from the private sector since its launch last year, with a further o20 million expected this year in energy efficiency in the home.

The trust also estimated the schemes would prevent emissions of over 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
