Baby P father renews threat to sue

  • Comment

The father of Baby P has repeated his threat to sue Haringey LBC over the youngster’s tragic death and is believed to be seeking £200,000.

The Daily Mail has reported that the natural father of Peter Connolly wanted the sum in compensation for the authority’s failure to protect the 17-month-old, who died at the hands of mother Tracey Connelly, her lover Steven Barker and Barker’s brother Jason Owen in 2007.

The paper said legal experts thought the father – who cannot be named for legal reasons – could be entitled to as much as £400,000.

It suggested that if former director of children’s services Sharon Shoesmith and six other staff members dismissed over Peter’s death were successful in their claims against the authority, Haringey could be left with a £1.6 million legal bill.

Peter’s father first raised the possiblity of bringing legal action against the authority in February.
