North Lanarkshire Council has been given the go-ahead by the Scottish Executive to appoint Balfour Beatty Capital Projects as preferred bidder for a£150m schools public-private partnership.
The Education 2010 scheme, which involves the construction of 24 new schools, is the biggest single project the council has undertaken since it was formed in 1996.
Russell Ellerby, commercial partnership manager at North Lanarkshire, said Balfour Beatty, which intends to invest around£7m in equity in the project, had submitted the 'most commercially advantageous tender'.
'Their bid submission significantly exceeded the quality and financial requirements for the Education 2010 project to proceed to the next stage of the process,' he said.
