The Quantock Staghounds, whose licence to hunt expires at the end of April, may be allowed to hunt on the traditional grounds of the neighbouring Devon and Somerset Staghounds, reports the Independent (p6).

The National Trust, on whose land the hunt relies heavily, has banned stag hunting on its land and decided not to renew the Quantock Staghound's licence.

The Devon and Somerset Staghounds said it would consider any request from the Quantock to use some of its traditional hunting grounds sympathetically.

-- Somerset CC was involved in lengthy legal action with the Quantock Staghounds two years ago (see LGCNet, 17.3.95).
