Commenting on the treasury's Barker Review of Housing Supply*,

Edward Davey MP, Liberal Democrat ODPM Shadow, said:

'This analysis is a veiled demolition of Prescott's policy to-date.

'Lack of housing reduces standards of living for everyone in the UK.

We urgently need more affordable homes and action to tackle the massive

skill shortages in the construction industry.

'With the Commons having passed Prescott's new planning laws only yesterday,

it is baffling that today's Treasury review is effectively calling for

different planning reforms.

'These findings cast serious doubts on the whole direction of government

housing and planning policy.'
