The Hampstead and Highgate Express (p1) reports that a notional Jewish border has been agreed in North West London.

Barnet LBC agreed the 'eruv' a six and a half square mile 'freedom zone' for Orthodox Jews in principal, although it could be months before the border - comprising 89 telegraph poles strung together with fishing wire - is erected.

Development and protection committee councillors gave consent to the poles but rejected four sites for the poles on the grounds that they would clutter the pavement.

Objectors have promised to block the scheme when it goes before Barnet's licensing committee.
