The Western Mail (p7) reports that Neath and Port Talbot CBC councillors have suggested Margam Castle as a home for the 60-member Welsh assembly. A picturesque, baroque mansion, it is set in acres of deer-rich parkland and is close to an M4 motorway junction.

Meanwhile, councillors from neighbouring Swansea City and County Council are mounting a campaign for the assembly to be based in the former Lliw Valley BC offices at Penllergaer, to the northwest of Swansea. it has a ready-made debating chamber and has little need of capital expenditure.

Lord Mayor Gareth Williams has spoken to Welsh secretary Ron Davies urging him to site at least one department in Swansea.
