The government of Abu Dhabi could today offer more than £1bn compensation to creditors of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, which collapsed more than three years ago, BBC Radio Four's Today programme reported.

Depending on the outcome of two court rulings today, the Abu Dhabi could offer a new deal which creditors will find more acceptable.

The liquidators hope to pay 20p in the pound in summer and possibly the same later, depending on success in tracking down the missing cash, Today reported.
