A Bill to disqualify staff and employeees of the European Commission and its institutions from being candidates in UK elections to the European parliament was given a first reading in the lords.

The private member's Bill, introduced by the Earl of Dartmouth, seeks to amend the European Parliamentary Elections Act passed earlier this year.
