A plan to save South Wales Police from a financial disaster with an emergency package to prevent cuts would have meant Mid, South and West Glamorgan county councils paying an extra £921,000 to the police authority, the Western Mail reports (p3).

The paper reports that after a meeting Mid Glamorgan CC leader Terry Mahoney said that with cuts looming in the county's spending assessment next week South Wales Police would have to do the same as the county and cut its cloth 'to meet their budgets',
