The competitors for the third wave of the government's Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO) initiative have been announced by the Highways Agency.

The consortia will be bidding for the latest three DBFO contracts; Bradford to Cumbria, the South Midlands Network and the Weald and Downland projects.

The Highways Agency received applications from nine bidding groups for the latest DBFO projects under the Government's Private Finance Initiative.

The agency has welcomed the construction industry's continued interest and its clear commitment to bring private sector finance and management skills into major road schemes, and trunk road operation and maintenance.

The bidders for the three DBFO projects are:

Bradford to Cumbria - Autolink, Connect, Roadlink, Trafalgar House/Autostrade.

South Midlands Network - Connect, National Road Operators, Road Management Group, UK Highways.

Weald and Downland - ExpressRoute, Modern Highways Group, Road Management Group, UK Highways.
