Birmingham City Council says it has sent a full apology to a blind tenant who was evicted in error, locked out overnight and separated from his guide dog.

Hugh McCallion (Lab), who chairs the council's healthy, caring and inclusive city scrutiny committee, said the insensitivity of the council's actions was 'staggering'.

It had failed to check computer and paper records showing the tenant was blind and had an agreement to pay the arrears through his bank.
