Birmingham City Council has written to families on the Harborne housing estate warning them that children under the age of 15 should not be outside after 8pm.

Saturday's Times (p9) reported that the council had attempted to impose the curfew because of the annoying and threatening behaviour of young children on the streets late at night.

Birmingham City Council spokeswoman Ann Fleming told the paper: 'Some elderly people have been very intimidated by these youngsters' behaviour and have complained.'

The paper also reports that Salford City Council has attempted to shame problem tenants by publishing pictures of six families evicted from council property.

Hackney LBC, says the Times, has brought civil actions banning certain individuals from certain parts of a council estate.
