David Thompson, 47, has been appointed new director of housing for

Birmingham, the largest housing authority in England and Wales.

David joins the department from Hackney LBC where he held the post of director of housing for seven years.

Speaking of his new appointment Mr Thompson said:

'I am looking forward to contributing to the challenges that face the city in terms of investment and service delivery.'

Mr Thompson has previously worked for the Northern Ireland housing executive and with the city council's urban renewal division.

Michael Lyons, chief executive, Birmingham City Council said: 'I am delighted that David has been appointed director of housing. It was close competition with other strong candidates. David brings to his new post a substantial track record and I am confident that he will prove a strong addition to our management team.'
