Birmingham City Council hopes to secure EU funds to improve its great British Balti bastion, reports The Daily Telegraph (30 Sept, Weekend Telegraph, p8).

Birmingham is considering an idea for a Balti Quarter, similar to London's Chinatown, to mark out the city's area where restaurants serve the popular curries cooked in steel woks, and a spokeswoman says a scheme under consideration is likely to be successful, reports the Daily Telegraph.
