Birmingham City Council last night took its first step towards the cabinet-style model, as Albert Bore, the leader, presented a draft protocol for the new executive board.

The Birmingham Post (p4) reports that cllr Bore assured members the new system would not take decision making away from committees, and insisted the board would operate with openness and transparency.

'As a£3bn business we must operate in a business-like manner. The introduction of an executive board will help us achieve that,' he said.
