A council housing officer who was facing the sack after tipping off council tenants about the presence of a sex offender, will keep his job, reports The Birmingham Post (p3).

Mike Wood had told tenants on the Garretts Green estate in Birmingham that the offender had moved in. His warning sparked protests by tenants against the sex offender.

Mr Wood was suspended in November on full pay. This resulted in a 1,000 word petition being handed into the council calling for his re-instatement.

Although Mr Wood will not be sacked, the council has told him he will be transferred to work in another area of the city. The sex offender was also forced to move out.
