Birmingham City Council are to install 'spy cameras' on buses to stop motorists using bus lanes, The Birmingham Post reports (p3).

The £85,000 scheme, the first of its type is the country, would involve cameras being attached to the front of buses to photograph the number plate of cars which illegally use bus lanes.

The city council are still discussing with police whether any action could be taken against the drivers, the paper reports.

Centro, the public transport authority, would foot around £5,000 of the bill, with the city picking up the rest.
