Scotland's controller of audit, Bob Black, is investigating the circumstances surrounding the departure of Nick Reiter as chief executive of Shetlands Islands Council.

The Accounts Commission confirmed its auditors had presented Mr Black with background information on a£75,000 settlement given to Mr Reiter, with relevant committee minutes.

Mr Reiter finally left the council in January, after just five months at his desk and another three on extended leave while the council investigated allegations he had misled members about his involvement in the Westminster City Council homes for votes scandal.
