The leader of Blackburn BC has attacked Lancashire CC claims that council tax bills will sharply increase as a result of local government reorganisation.

In a series of newspaper adds, Lancashire said that many tax payers would end up with bills £70 higher when unitary councils form.

Mr Doherty pointed to comments from the Local Government Commission dismissing the county's claims.

He said: 'This is another example of irresponsible campaigning by the county council in a bid to cling on to the confusing two tier system of local government'.
