A man has appeared at Winchester crown court charged with blackmailing three Hampshire CC staff.

Kuldip Judge, 41, is charged with making threats over the phone to senior officers including the director of legal services, the court heard.

Edward Phillips, prosecuting, said: 'He telephoned various employees of the council and claimed to have tape recordings of conversations of a sensitive nature with employees. He threatened to go to the press with that tape unless money was passed to him.'

No other details were given at the hearing on Monday.

Judge Michael Brodrick adjourned the case for a plea and directions hearing in October. The defendant was remanded on unconditional bail.
