Education chiefs in Blackpool BC have guaranteed that grants to students in further education will not suffer any cuts in the coming academic year.

The town's new education authority has pledged that financial awards and clothing grants will remain unchanged for students living locally.

Students aged 16 to 19 can apply for means-tested casch support when going on to further study.

Education director David Sanders said he wanted to reassure Blackpool students and their parents that further education awards made locally would not be subject to any cutbacks.

'Blackpool BC has given a high priority to education which puts us in the enviable position of being able to keep spending at the same level or to spend more, not less.'
