Blackpool BC is trying to avert a hearing at the high court over the case of three schoolgirls who have been banned from their school for wearing nose studs, reports The Express (p31).

The three have been barred from lessons at Greenlands High School for ten days for refusing to comply with the school's dress code and are seeking legal aid to take the case to court.

A spokeswoman for the council said they were trying to arrange a meeting to try and avoid a court hearing, which could cost the authority anything from£20,000 to£40,000.
