The Independent (p1) reports a former Doncaster MBC councillor's claims that he alerted Tony Blair to alleged widespread abuses of power at the authority 18 months ago.

Ron Rose told the paper that he received no reply to the letter delivered to Mr Blair by Tony Booth, the Labour leader's father in law and a friend of Mr Rose.

Mr Booth said that Tony Blair had read the letter and passed it on to be dealt with by Labour party officials.

The paper said that one of Mr Blair's aides had rung Mr Rose and said that she was dealing with the matter.

Doncaster MBC has recently been at the centre of accusations of junkets and exploitation of expenses.
