Schools will be forced to publish the results of national curriculum tests for 14-year-olds for the first time ever from next year, according to The Independent on Sunday (p1).

The decision, said to have the personal backing of Tony Blair, will cause an outcry from teaching unions, who have urged ministers to follow the example of Wales and Northern Ireland to ban league tables altogether rather than extend them.

The move will put the test results on a par with [league tables for] GCSEs and A-levels. The newspaper says the move will be outlined in the education white paper to be published on Wednesday.
