The British Medical Association has called for the abolition of the Section 28 law prohibiting the promotion of homosexuality as it was stopping effective sex education, reports The Guardian (p6).

A BMA report said there was a need for teachers to respect the range of young peoples' views, but it was hampered as teachers mistakenly thought any discussion of homosexuality was forbidden under the act.

Section 28 applies to local authorities but not to schools.
