Leader of Birmingham City Council Albert Bore has promised to continue working with the police to keep the city safe in the wake of the bomb attack at the weekend.

Mr Bore (Lab) said: 'I am relieved no one was killed or injured. Birmingham has tragic memories of the 1974 pub bombings and all of us are determined this latest incident will not deflect from achieving a peaceful end to the troubles in Northern Ireland.'

A car bomb, believed to be planted by the Real IRA, partially exploded in the town centre on Saturday night.
