Cleveland's four borough councils today called on their county council to focus on the 'real' issues affecting the area.

Chairperson of the local ADC branch and leader of Stockton DC, Bob Gibson, said the council 'seems to be in favour of selective democracy - a vote is only valid if it supports their own views.

'Taken together with the results of the MORI poll which showed 40% support for the Boroughs against just 7% for the Teesside/Hartlepool option, it provides clear indications that there is solid across-the board support for four all-purpose local councils.'
