The Daily Telegraph (Jan 17, p3) reported that Bradford MBC has reacted to an independent report showing that 42% of its staff were suffering from stress, by putting aside£85,000 to give workers counselling, physiotherapy and advice on relaxing.

Sheffield University's Institute of Work Psychology Department, which conducted the study, found that the problem was worst among teachers, but widespread among officials and manual workers.

Ian Greenwood, deputy leader of Bradford told the paper: 'We believe that early intervention is necessary.'
