A man who won a legal battle to stop Breckland DC naming his street after a dead Labour councillor said that the address Brian Barnard Close 'sounded like an old people's home'.

Ray Knightly objected to the council naming his street of 'executive ' houses after a well known local councillor, reported the Times (December 22, p3).

Michael Horn, for Breckland DC said the name was chosen democratically.

'It is pure snobbery to say it is unsuited to a private development but is all right for council houses,' he told the paper. A compromise name will now be sought.
