Brent LBC last night approved the£475m plan for the redevelopment of Wembley Stadium despite fears of inadequate parking at the 90,000 seater complex, reports The Evening Standard.

Residents have argued that a 1,200-space multi-storey car park and an adjacent 2,900 parking area is 'a joke' for such a large project, when the existnig stadium provides for 6,000 cars.

Park-and-ride schemes along the M25 have been agreed but details have not yet been thrashed out.

Chris Palmer, a spokesman for the developers, Wembley National Stadium Ltd, said: 'We have devised a good transport scheme. We don't want more car parks, in line with government policy to reduce car use.'

Paul Daisley, leader of Brent, said: 'The dear old lady we know and love will be no more. She has passed her sell-by date. The new Wembley Stadium will be a world class stadium that will regenerate Wembley.'
