Capita has announced that it has been named by Brent LBC as preferred outsourcing supplier for its revenues and IT support services.

Subject to agreement, Capita will be responsible for the processing and administration of council tax and business rates and will provide IT support for both this, and the benefits service. The contract has an estimated value of£20m over eight years. Contract details remain to be finalised, however, an anticipated start date has been set for spring 2003.

Capita's selection as preferred supplier follows a best value review under which Brent LBC has decided to return its benefits service to direct council control on 1 October 2002, and to re-tender its revenues and IT support services to a third-party provider. Services were previously contracted out to Electronic Data Services (EDS).

Staff currently working within the revenues and IT support services would be transferred via TUPE to Capita; 30 staff will continue to be based in Wembley and a further 15 will be based at Capita's revenue services centre based in Bromley.

Mark Chapman, business director, Capita Local Government Services said, 'We are delighted to have been selected by Brent Council as preferred supplier. This contract will expand our existing business, providing education IT support to a number of schools throughout Brent, and reflects our continuing strength in the provision of services to local government.'
