The Western Mail carries a special supplement focusing on Bridgend CBC, which includes an interview with council leader Jeff Jones.

He describes his role as the best job he has ever had in local government and enthusiastically talks about the county's prospects.

'I am upbeat about the future of Bridgend,' he says. 'I and my council colleagues are always looking forward and not to the past. We don't want to be stuck in the 'How Green was my Valley' time warp.'

He says his authority didn't believe the new Labour government would bail out local authorities. He adds: 'I think some authorities are finding themselves in great difficulty because they believed there would be a large increase in the money coming to local government.'

'But I think we were an authority who saw reorganisation as an opportunity to do things. We were very much in support of the government's new agenda for modernising local government and I see that as a way forward.'

The supplement also carries various other articles about economic developments in the area, including one on the recently-opened MrArthur Glen Designer Outlet shopping complex, which has been quite successful so far.
