BRIDGEND KEEPS ROW IN THE FAMILY

Bridgend CBC leader Jeff Jones was called before his local Labour Party's executive committee last week after disagreeing with local MP Sir Ray Powell in public over the Welsh referendum - only to discover three members of the MP's family were on the committee.

Mr Jones criticised the MP for taking a 'no' stance in the devolution campaign, a stance which was against Labour policy and which was defeated by the yes campaign in Wales.

The committee Mr Jones faced last Friday comprised 20 people including Sir Ray's daughter, his son-in-law and his son-in-law's brother.

Mr Jones said: 'I've no idea what their stated purpose was that evening. They were told they couldn't discipline me because I was following party policy, but they are very old-style Labour.

'Sir Ray was there as I was led in. The only time he spoke was when I said the no cause had been defeated locally, to which he replied 'rubbish' under his breath.'

Sir Ray Powell was unavailable for comment.
