Local Government Association chief executive Sir Brian Briscoe has returned to work after a heart scare.

Sir Brian, who suffered a minor heart attack at the Conservative spring conference in Brighton, was back at work for two days this week and plans to return full time next week.

'I feel refreshed and renewed and eager to take the LGA forward after the election,' he said.

Sir Brian is on an open-ended permanent contract with the association, but made a pledge towards the end of 2003 to stay 'at least until the general election'. He had indicated he was likely to stay until May 2006, close to his 60th birthday.
