Britain has one of the worst homelessness problems in Europe, The Guardian reports (September 25 p12).

Figures produced by the European Federation of National Organisations Working with the Homeless show the UK as having 688,000 homeless people, surpassed only by Germany with 1,030,000. France had 627,000 homeless. None of the other EC countries had more than 90,000 but this could be due to under-reporting, the survey said.

The Federation called on the European Commission to take action and allow its regional funds to be used for housing.
