BAA have announced that British Airways will occupy Heathrow Airport's planned fifth terminal, subject to planning permission being granted for the terminal.

The Financial Times (p9) reports that the BAA said the terminal would not open till 2004, two years later than planned, and the offer with BA is conditional on planning permission being granted after a public enquiry which is due to finish in mid 1998.

Virgin Atlantic said it would challenge the decision giving BA pride of place.
