In the House of Commons, Labour MP Clive Betts (Sheffield, Attercliffe) asked the environment secretary what calculations he had done of the effect on councils of the rise in building control fees following the NHBC's decision to freeze its fees.

Junior environment minister Robert Jones said no calculations had been made but the DoE planned to monitor future fee levels of councils.
