'A new assistant director of skills development, Kelly Sandiford, has joined the Employers' Organisation for local government as we broaden our support to councils on capacity building and improvement.

Kelly joins the EO from Lambeth LBC, with an extensive background in managing front-line services, training and developing staff. Her appointment will strengthen the EO's drive to build the skills of the workforce to meet service delivery targets.

She is excited by the prospect of making a real difference to local government: 'I hope my direct operational experience at a senior level, and awareness of the complexities facing staff in local authorities, will contribute positively to the way the EO delivers its products and services. Whilst doing this, I plan to keep our ultimate aim in mind - to help authorities deliver better services.'

Kelly plans to deliver a practical framework for workforce planning and development to support improvement. Mick James, also an assistant director of skills and development says: 'We are delighted to have Kelly with us. Her recent experience of managing a front-line local government service and her extensive background in training and development will strengthen our team here at the EO. Delivering on national capacity building projects such as the national skills framework and national management framework are her priorities.''
