Protesters Julia Larden and Michael Lawley have won their fight to prevent a bus scheme that would damage the environment.

Trees, grassland and shops were to be the casualties of a£26m bus lane in Acocks Green, Birmingham.

Birmingham City Council transportation and street services cabinet member Len Gregory (Con) said the public consultation period had been extended because of the strength of opinion.

He said: 'The survival of many mature trees and open green space is now assured.'
