The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities today welcomed the executive's plans to consult on business improvement districts.

Cosla president Pat Watters said:

'We very much welcome the executive's plans to consult on business improvement districts and although we cannot at this stage comment in great detail on the content it is a move that we are in support of.

'In our response to the local government committee's inquiry into local

government finance we promoted business improvement districts as a useful

tool for financing improvements or services in a specific area.

'It is good to see the executive listening to Cosla and the committee and

acting in a positive manner.

'In the same response we also flagged up the importance of the business

sector and we would hope to engage with them during this consultation

period.'

Mr Watters finished by commenting on the roll out of the city growth

fund proposals:

'We welcomed the £90m when it was announcedin January and it is good to see the specific allocations being announced today. It will allow councils to begin work on developing their plans and visions.'
