REDUNDANCY SCANDAL ...
REDUNDANCY SCANDAL

A Labour MP has challenged Welsh Secretary John Redwood to take disciplinary action against Welsh Office civil servants for not revealing the full extent of their knowledge of excess redundancy payments made by the Welsh Development Agency, the Western Mail reports (p5).

The WDA was criticised by the Public Accounts Committee for spending £1.6 million on unauthorised redundancy payments.

Jon Owen Jones, MP for Cardiff Central, said leaked correspondence showed civil servants knew more than they revealed at the time.

In a written reply in the Commons, Mr Redwood said he had accepted the permanent secretary's decision that there were no grounds for disciplinary action.
