Labour has called on Conservative Party chairman Brian Mawhinney to expel three Brent LBC councillors att- acked by the ombudsman for 'astonishing' breaches of conduct (LGC, 13 September).

Bill Duffin, David Tobert and Leslie Winters were found guilty of maladministration causing injustice, over a decision to award planning permission to a pub landlord who gave £4,000 to the local Conservative Association.

Local Labour MP Ken Livingstone is to refer the matter to the police.

Brent East Conservative Association said the donations were not 'out of the ordinary' and it had 'no reason to believe they were made other than from a desire to support the aims of the party'.
