More reusable nappies are part of Leicestershire CC's strategy to avoid a £3.2m annual bill for landfill tax, according to a feature in the Independent's second section (p16).

The feature examines the tactics councils may use to avoid paying the £5.53 a tonne which will be charged for rubbish from October.

The paper reports that the Association of Metropolitan Authorities would like to see postponement of the landfill tax, at least until the implications of it are better understood, adding that it is a transparent revenue-raising measure for the treasury.
