The Independent's education section profiles Newnham Croft primary school in Cambridge, once a model school and now the subject of a damning Ofsted report (p8).

University of Cambridge lecturer and former Newnham PTA member Andy Martin argues the problem was that the school management turned a 'blind eye and deaf ear' to parent concerns over the lack of a structured curriculum.

Although praised for its 'open door' policy, the school suffered from a paranoid approach among teachers and governors to parents' input and concerns, he says.
