Camden LBC has confirmed that it is prepared to use casual workers to break the borough's eight week old library strike, reports the Hampstead and Highgate Express (p1).

Eleven of the borough's 13 libraries have been closed since February when 150 workers walked out claiming a new structure would mean pay and job cuts.

Now advertisements for 'casual sessional library staff' have appeared in local newspapers and a council spokeswoman confirmed that casual workers could be used to break the strike.

'If it means that we can open more libraries and provide a proper service to users then it is a possibility,' she said. 'If we want to try and offer a full service then, yes, they will be used.'
