Camden LBC is making up to£40,000 a month by using bailiffs to seize cars belonging to motorists who refuse to pay parking tickets, reports the Ham & High (p1).

Twelve cars have been sold at auction to cover unpaid fines after being impounded in lieu of cash payments. The strategy, introduced last September, has made£118,000 so far as offenders rush to pay to avoid having their cars removed.

A council spokeswoman told the Ham & High that bailiffs were empowered to seize vehicles when people ignored tickets, notices, letters and county court judgments against them.
