Camden LBC's Liberal Democrat group leader has called for a referendum on directly elected mayors.

Flick Rea accused the Labour leadership of putting a spin on its consultation on new political structures.

'If the consultation papers say the council is inclined to favour one model, it gives it a heavy spin,' said Ms Rea. 'The Labour leadership in Camden doesn't want any change, except that it doesn't have to go to committee.'

Labour leader Richard Arthur denied Camden Labour group wants no change: 'We want to be at the forefront of this new policy.'
