Camden LBC is to redirect£2m into education in the borough by taking money off other services, reports the Hampstead & Highgate Express (p1).

The borough had planned to cut£4m from schools and the education department next year, but was warned of the severe effect on quality of education and teachers jobs.

The council has now announced that an extra£800,000 has been found through savings and an extra£1.2m is to be allocated from surplus council funds.

This week chancellor Kenneth Clarke said during campaigning for the Wirral South by election that local authorities should divert funds from other services into education. (See LGCNet, 13 Feb).
