A two-day conference outlining a vision of Cardiff as a 'city that never sleeps' started yesterday, reports The Western Mail (p5).

Organised by the city council, the conference, with delegates from the UK, Portugal and Denmark, aims to explore the mechanics needed to transform the city into one with a truly European feel where business and leisure activities interact into the early hours, says The Mail.

Conference organiser Nick Hamilton said: 'The situation in most UK cities at present is one of a 9-5 existence, where work ends and the pubs open. We want to model ourselves on such European cities without trying to alter Cardiff's unique identity.'
